That 9-to-5 Job You Hate Isn’t As Safe As You Think

Most people are afraid to jump into entrepreneurship due to the safety and security of a 9-5 job.

But that 9-5 job may not be as safe as it seems. In fact, your day job may end up keeping your side-hustle in the category of a “hobby” rather than allowing it to reach its full potential.

However, it can be a good thing to not jump straight into the deep end of the pool of entrepreneurship from the start.

The Risks Of Starting A Business

Being your own boss can be risky. There are no guarantees. Some people aren’t well-equipped to handle the stress of starting their own business. There are some questions you can ask yourself to get clear on this before starting a business.

As scary as starting your own business is, you may be taking a bigger risk counting on your 9-5 job. Your steady job can end at any time for any number of reasons. The company can go through layoffs, as many companies have done lately. Or your position may become redundant.

If you don’t have a side-project that brings in some income that you can ramp up into a full-time business you may be playing a risky game in today’s unsure employment market.

Build Something That Matters

Most people want to do something that really matters. Whether it’s consulting work, launching an app, or starting a tech startup, they know that they’re ready to take on a new challenge.

Many people say “I don’t have time to start up a business”. However, it only takes 1-2 hours per week to begin a small business. Everyone gets the same 24 hours in a day. Successful people tend to make the most out of that time.

Invest In Yourself

Once you’ve decided to take the leap and invest a few hours a week on a business, it’s time to put that energy into action. Investing time and energy into the possibility of a better future can help you feel more secure whether or not your 9-5 job provides you with security.

Start investing time to learn the skills you need to move your idea forward. Consider reading books on how to start a business. Take time to plan out your business and start developing your ideal.
