A USP is a Unique Selling Proposition. It’s what sets your business apart.
It’s what makes businesses purchase from you instead of from your competitors. It’s what makes you stand out from the crowd.
When you define what you do differently from the beginning of your business, you’ll more easily be able to communicate this to your potential customers in your marketing.
Your USP is often the special knowledge and skills that your business offers your customers. It may be exceptional service or a unique offering.
Identify your USP with the following questions:
- What’s the best part of your products and services?
- What do your clients love about your products and services?
- What makes customers choose you instead of your competitors?
- What skills and knowledge do you have that sets your business apart?
- What benefits do customers receive from purchasing your services and products?
- What aspects of your services and products do you highlight when you describe your business to someone new?
Once you understand your USP be sure to utilize it in your marketing. This means highlighting what sets you apart on your website, in advertising, and in networking and business directories. You might even consider integrating your USP into your logo, brand design, or business name.
